BPL Global was announced Lloyd’s and London Market Broking Team of the Year at the British Insurance Awards in July 2022.

“A true specialist, BPL’s expertise and value to the Lloyd’s and London market underlined its credentials as the winner of Broking Team of the Year. From a commitment to developing markets in support of climate objectives to growing its international presence; from using digital technology to improve communication and transparency with both clients and insurer partners, BPL was the standout entry in a competitive and well contested category.” – Jonathan Swift, director of content, Post

BPL Global caught the judges’ attention by enhancing its ESG credentials alongside placing complex risks, bringing global business to London, and providing quality data insight for clients. BPL Global specialises in credit and political risk insurance (“CPRI”), covering international trade, investment and lending, and structured insurance programmes.

The Lloyd’s broker has further consolidated its position over the past 12 months through successful implementation of digitisation initiatives, commitment to developing markets in support of climate objectives, and growing its international presence and expertise.

BPL has sought to improve clients’ data capabilities with BPL Sphere, a digital portfolio management tool, and transform broker-underwriter communication by successfully piloting an application programming interface which allows for seamless systems-based digital integration between brokers and insurers alongside enhanced data accuracy, reliability, and analytics.

Through BPL Sphere, clients now benefit from full and immediate visibility of their CPRI portfolio and exposures across their global operations, including country and counterparty exposures, active policies and corresponding endorsements, invoice payments and claims. BPL Sphere enables risk management oversight alongside in-depth analyses of premium spending, insurer relationships, and exposures to streamline internal reporting.

BPL wanted to address both the needs of the insurance sector and the challenges posed by a warming planet. BPL was the only CPRI specialist to attend COP 26 in November 2021 in Glasgow, supporting the launch of the Green Guarantee Company – an initiative to provide risk transfer solutions for green financing innovation in emerging markets.

The GGC provides emerging market debt issuers with access to new investor pools by increasing the creditworthiness of an issuance by its guarantee. By supporting the development of a political risk insurance framework, BPL provided a basis upon which insurers can back the GGC, resulting in improved capital flows between developed and developing markets in support of climate objectives.

BPL also assisted clients to access Euler Hermes’ Green2Green Single Risk solution and expanded its corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities. The solution has helped tackle climate change by insuring green transactions and investing the premium into certified green bonds, creating a virtuous green cycle.

Aiming to bolster its international presence and better serve global clients based in the UK, BPL established a binding authority with Lloyd’s Japan in response to an uptick in demand for a global insurance solution that covered their Japanese subsidiaries.

Under the Lloyd’s Japan arrangement, BPL unlocked Lloyd’s market capacity for credit risk cover for Japanese operations, giving Japanese insureds immediate access to Lloyd’s security – reducing unnecessary complexity and cost.

“BPL is without a doubt an exceptional player in the field. The Sphere client platform is a valuable addition, and they also appear to be taking ESG very seriously,” the judges said.

BPL Global has, for the seventh year running, been recognised as the industry’s leading specialist insurance broker after being voted “Best Trade Credit and Political Risk Insurance Broker” by the readers of Global Trade Review magazine in its annual Leaders in Trade awards.

Sian Aspinall, Managing Director of BPL Global, comments: “We are delighted to once again be recognised by GTR as the market’s leading broker, which speaks much to the continuity of our business and to the consistency of our service. BPL Global has received the “Best Credit & Political Risk Insurance (CPRI) Broker” award from leading trade and export finance magazine, TXF – at the publication’s Export, Agency & Project Finance event in Rome. The Best in Class award winners were voted for by TXF subscribers and industry participants.

Charles Berry, Chairman of BPL Global, said: “It’s an honour to be recognised by our peers and clients as the leading broker in the field. The Rome event has also been most enjoyable, with the speeches and discussions affirming the private insurance market’s appetite and capacity for medium- to long-term business, and emphasising that today sponsors, exporters and banks often have a choice between traditional ECA and private market cover.”

BPL Global has once again been recognised as the industry’s leading specialist insurance broker after being voted “Best Trade Credit and Political Risk Insurance Broker” by the readers of Global Trade Review magazine in its annual Leaders in Trade awards . It is the sixth year in a row that BPL Global has picked up the accolade, this time beating Marsh into second place.

Charles Berry, chairman of BPL Global, comments: “It has been another successful year; one that has seen us grow into new markets, with our Dubai office opening, while also making further inroads into the medium- to long-term export credit business where we have the appetite and capacity to offer an alternative to traditional ECA cover. But despite this growth, and the quickly-moving state of the CPRI market, we also pride ourselves on providing the market and our clients with continuity. We are, and will remain, employee-owned, acting unambiguously for policyholders in our specialist line of business.”

BPL Global has been crowned “Best Trade Credit Broker” in the Trade & Forfaiting Review awards and “Best Insurance Broker in Trade” in the Trade Finance Awards for Excellence. The success signifies a clean sweep of the leading industry awards, after BPL Global was nominated as the best-in-class trade credit and political risk broker at the December GTR Leaders in Trade awards.

The Trade & Forfaiting Review accolade saw BPL Global beat Willis and Marsh into second and third place respectively.

Commenting on the achievement, Charles Berry, Chairman of BPL Global, said: “To hold once again all three of these awards is very gratifying. While the global political and economic environment continues in a state of flux, and our insurance market evolves almost daily, our goal remains the same – to provide market-leading service to our clients. Our strategy for delivering this makes us a bit different: specialisation; operating globally in our niche; unambiguously acting for policyholders; and being employee-owned. The market seems to like this approach. So, despite the M&A frenzy gripping the specialist insurance market at the moment, we plan to move forward with our same strategy, and so provide the continuity our clients want in the ever-changing market place.”

BPL Global has once again been recognised as the industry’s leading specialist insurance broker after being crowned “Best Trade Credit and Political Risk Insurance Broker” for the fifth year running in the 2014 GTR Leaders in Trade awards. The accolade follows swiftly on from BPL Global being elected “Best Trade Credit Broker” by readers of Trade & Forfaiting Review, where it beat Willis and JLT Specialty into second and third place respectively.

Commenting on the achievements, Charles Berry, chairman of BPL Global, said: “To be recognised with these awards is a great endorsement of our specialised approach, and of our dedication to achieving better, cheaper and more readily available credit and political risk insurance for risks in emerging economies. At the same time, it speaks for the resilience and success of the CPRI market as a whole, which has sustained appetite for covering risks in difficult markets. Indeed, the market has successfully broadened its footprint in Asia this year, while also making further inroads into the medium- to long-term export credit business where private insurers have the appetite, capacity and credit rating to offer an alternative to traditional ECA cover.”

BPL Global has been crowned “Best Trade Credit and Political Risk Insurance Broker” in the 2013 GTR Leaders in Trade awards. This year, a change to the judging process meant that the winners were picked by the magazine’s global and regional editorial boards, comprising respected figures in the trade finance market. A full list of the results can be found here.

Commenting on the recognition, Charles Berry, Chairman, BPL Global, said: “BPL Global has long been synonymous with the growth of the political risk insurance (PRI) market, and this recognition from GTR’s editorial board speaks as much about the resilience of the market itself as it does about our own dedication to making sure that it works for our policyholder clients. Certainly, despite global economic concerns and continued social and civil strife in many emerging markets, the PRI market has continued to perform strongly.”

Berry added: “We at BPL Global continue to strive to achieve better, cheaper and more readily available credit and political risk insurance for emerging economies. As part of this we are seeing the PRI market broaden its reach geographically – especially into Asia where we have seen considerable growth this year. Additionally, this year has seen increased PRI appetite and capacity for medium–to-long–term export credit business, offering an alternative to traditional ECA cover. This is an area we see growing over the next few years.”

BPL Global has been crowned “Best Trade Credit Broker” in the 2013 Trade & Forfaiting Review Excellence Awards, completing a clean sweep of the year’s leading industry awards. It comes after Trade Finance magazine’s readers voted the company “Best Insurance Broker in Trade”, for the fifth successive year, and after winning “Best Trade Credit and Political Risk Insurance Broker” at the GTR Leaders in Trade Awards.

In a hotly-contested category, the TFR awards saw BPL Global beat Marsh and Willis into second and third places respectively. It is the second time that the company has been recognised by all three of the industry’s leading awards in the same year.

Commenting on the achievement, Charles Berry, chairman of BPL Global, said “To be recognised with these awards is a great endorsement of our specialised approach, and of our dedication to making sure that the political risk insurance market works for our policyholder clients. But, more than that, it is also a great acknowledgement of the resilience of the PRI market itself which, despite global economic troubles and social and political unrest in the Middle East, has continued to perform strongly – paying claims and continuing to write its non-cancellable policies.”

BPL Global has once again been recognised as the industry’s leading specialist insurance broker after being elected Best Trade Credit Broker by readers of Trade & Forfaiting Review, and winner of the magazine’s ‘Gold’ award for excellence.

Charles Berry, Chairman of BPL Global, commented: “We are most grateful to the readers of Trade & Forfaiting Review for choosing BPL Global as the winner of its 2012 Excellence award for best trade credit insurance broker.

We are delighted that TFR’s readers have recognized the important role the political risk insurance (PRI) market plays in providing specialty comprehensive trade credit insurance policies for both short term and medium & long term (MLT) business to traders, exporters and banks.

We are particularly pleased to receive this award at a time when the financial crisis in Europe and the political turmoil in the MENA region have put trade credit insurance under the spotlight.

We are proud that the specialty PRI market, with which we have become synonymous, has functioned normally and performed well throughout the crisis – paying claims, continuing to write its non-cancelable policies, and increasing its capacity.  The specialty PRI market continues to grow – as do we, as our recent expansion into the Asia-Pacific region demonstrates.

The global environment remains challenging.  However we are determined to continue to support our clients, who trade, lend and invest into the emerging growth markets, by providing effective and cost-effective trade credit and political risk policies from the specialty insurance markets.”

This is the second award BPL Global has received in 2012, coming soon after winning an Award for Excellence from Trade Finance magazine in June.
