Portfolio Solutions
Significant Risk Transfer Transactions
A growing synergy between CPRI and reinsurance, Significant Risk Transfer (SRT) transactions allow financial institutions to shift credit risk on a portfolio of assets while maintaining the legal ownership and client relationship of a wide range of underlying assets – including those relating to residential mortgages, trade finance, project finance, as well as large corporate, SME, and asset backed loans.
Structured with a least two different stratified risk tranches of the underlying pool of assets, SRTs reflect degrees of credit risk in the portfolio. In exchange for risk premium paid by the financial institutions, SRT (re)insurers cover all losses of an entire pool of assets up to an aggregate limit, supported by their credit and political risk expertise and sophisticated modelling and actuarial capabilities.
With this structure, financial institutions, using both the standardised approach as well as Internal Ratings-Based method, can qualify for significant regulatory capital relief under Basel III/CRD IV.
