For over 45 years, Charles Berry has led the charge on CPRI. Co-founding BPL in 1983 when CPRI was still in its infancy, he has since played an integral role in the development of the business, the market and the insurance industry itself.

Charles Berry is a Group Board member and BPL’s Founding Director. A renowned industry figure, Berry is involved in BPL’s strategic development, product innovation and quality of client service. His experience and expertise are key assets for the business, helping to shape BPL’s offering and the next generations of CPRI talent.

Berry has been a major force in growing BPL’s team and presence worldwide, its client base of major multinational corporations, exporters and financial institutions, as well as its portfolio of policies placed that exceeds USD$80 billion of current limits.

A past President of the Insurance Institute of London (IIL), he has contributed significantly to the progression and capabilities of the CPRI industry as a whole – spearheading innovations that have helped take it from a fledgling market to an insurance class with a clear identity and vital role to play in enabling global trade and investment. In addition to pioneering the use of credit insurance for banks, he was an early advocate of broader political violence cover following 9/11 and, more recently, an established market for “war risks on land”.

Berry is also a highly regarded thought leader, speaker and lecturer on the risks of trading and investing in emerging markets. A Director of the London and International Insurance Brokers’ Association (LIIBA), he represents the interests of Lloyd’s insurance and reinsurance brokers operating in the London and international markets more broadly.

Before co-founding BPL, Berry began his career with Hogg Robinson in 1974. He holds a Masters degree from Oxford University, an MBA from Harvard Business School and is a Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute.
