Evan Freely is a CPRI expert, with over 25 years of experience broking in the US market and a background in banking. He was appointed to BPL Global’s Executive Board in 2019 and is based in New York.
As Director, Evan is responsible for helping shape our global strategic direction, penetrating new geographies and expanding BPL Global’s product offering alongside day-to-day broking. He also takes an active role in diversity and talent development initiatives, as well as exploring how technological innovations can enhance processes both within BPL Global and the wider insurance industry. Having joined BPL Global in 2019, Evan works with a team of five brokers out of our office in New York.
Evan is widely-known within the market for his ability to advise on all aspects of the CPRI product and for pushing the envelope on market capabilities to help bank clients avoid large losses during the 1993 downturn in Venezuela, the 2002 crisis in Argentina and the 2008 global financial crisis.
Evan joined BPL Global after 11 years at Marsh, where he held the position of Managing Director and Global Practice Leader for the broker’s Credit Specialties Group. He also served on the Presidents’ Council and was selected for two Elite Leadership programmes, using the experience he gained at other large brokers to diversify and grow Marsh’s revenue stream through developing sales and talent strategies for its CPRI product lines and harmonising its trade credit and political risk and regional units.
Evan started his insurance broking career in 1998, spurred by the CPRI market’s need for proponents of product development as well as business generation. Although specialising in banking deals, he worked across the full spectrum of the CPRI product, including corporate political risk, multi-buyer trade credit and contract frustration.
Starting 2001, Evan led the Financial Solutions practice for the Americas at Willis for seven years. Prior to this, Evan spent seven years as an underwriter at the FCIA Management Company, a New York-based credit and political risk insurer, having previously worked at Chemical Bank for four years. During his time at Chemical Bank, Evan underwent the bank’s credit training programme which formed his foundational knowledge of credit analysis.
