Having joined BPL Global in 2011, Harriet Smith runs the insurance broker’s Dubai operation, with a focus on developing the local insurance market and cultivating new business with the local banking, commodity trading, engineering and construction industries.
Harriet played a significant part in establishing BPL Global’s Representative Office in the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC), which opened in July 2015. In August 2017, BPL Dubai was granted a licence to conduct insurance intermediation in the DIFC. As Senior Executive Officer, Harriet is charged with raising BPL Global’s profile in the region in order to develop new business with the local banking, commodity trading, engineering and construction industries. Harriet is a regular speaker and panellist at local trade and export finance events and conferences as part of these efforts.
In her role, Harriet also acts as a local point-of-contact for the company’s existing multinational clients which have a presence in the Middle East, and is responsible for meeting the representative office’s regulatory obligations, liaising locally with the Dubai Financial Services Authority.
Harriet joined BPL Global in early 2011 and, prior to moving to Dubai, worked in the London office focusing on medium-and long-term business for large German exporters and financial institutions.
