Oliver Wright has over 25 years’ experience in the insurance industry, having joined BPL Global as a graduate trainee in 1995. He became a Director in 2002 and joined the group board in 2005.
Oliver leads a team of brokers – a responsibility he assumed in 1999 – and is a seasoned practitioner in bank business.
Oliver’s team works on policies and products at the cutting-edge of the CPRI market’s capabilities, covering major corporate and sovereign loans to markets in Eastern Europe, Asia and African provided by his banking clients. Oliver’s experience means that not only does he understand banks’ requirements and risk mitigants but he can communicate these effectively to the underwriting market.
Oliver’s team is also responsible for BPL Global’s Austrian, North American and South African business, covering banks, traders, exporters and equity investors. Specifically, he deals with two major oil and steel traders and has significant experience working with capital goods manufacturers and exporters, especially in the pulp paper and hydroelectric industries.
In South Africa, a developing market for BPL Global, Oliver works with equity investors to cover pipelines and power projects across Africa, in markets such as Mozambique and Ghana.
Notably, Oliver collected, at the time, the CPRI market’s largest claim in 1998 and, working with the company’s founders, helped the World Bank set up export credit agencies in Bosnia and Serbia.
Oliver spent a year working at Willis during his second year at Aston University, where he studied Politics and Psychology.
