Sian Aspinall is one of CPRI’s leading experts and BPL’s Group CEO. Appointed in September 2022, she is responsible for the strategy and operations of the business globally and advocates for the industry at the highest level.

As Group CEO, Aspinall defines the strategic direction of the company and its line of specialist products, as well as leading on developing its corporate structure. Core to her strategy for enhancing BPL’s value is expanding access and furthering DEI efforts at all levels within BPL – ensuring the business, clients and the product benefit from a holistic perspective and diverse skillsets and offering the market a blueprint for how it can better reflect wider society.

Aspinall is widely regarded as a leading figure in the CPRI market. With over 30 years’ experience and an exhaustive knowledge of the intricacies of CPRI, she is often sought as an industry advocate. Among her market affiliations, Aspinall is active through her roles on the IACPM Credit Insurance Working Group, Loan Market Association Standardised Policy Wording Working Group, along with the ITFA Insurance Committee and its Banking Regulatory Sub-Committee.

Before her role as Group CEO, Aspinall served alongside James Esdaile as BPL’s Managing Director for close to seven years, where she oversaw significant growth of the business. During this time, she also played an influential role in shaping the market’s positioning around the Insurance Act 2015, negotiating appropriate standard sanctions clauses, and campaigning for appropriate recognition and treatment of credit insurance within Banking Regulation.

Aspinall rejoined BPL in 2014, having initially been at BPL Global for two years from 1992 as a Graduate Trainee. In the interim, she led an independent consultancy for insurers, loss adjusters, brokers and law firms, acting as an expert witness in complex claims and practical arbitration cases and a specialist peer reviewer for insurers for assessing portfolio risk quality, while also conducting feasibility studies for insurers looking to enter the class.

Prior to this, she worked as an underwriter, initially with AIG and then as Senior Vice President, Trade Credit and Political Risk at Zurich. At Zurich, Aspinall was responsible for establishing the company in the London market and managing a team of specialist underwriters. She started her career as a political risk broker in 1990 at Hogg Robinson (now AON).

Aspinall is an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute, and a graduate of Kingston Business School.
